Many woodworkers are exploring the use of resin as a way to enhance their projects. One challenge that many resin users have voiced is the difficulty of mixing the resin component in the specific ratio that is necessary to produce a solid material after curing. Ratios can be challenging to translate to specific measurements, and the penalty for not getting it right can be an inferior surface—or worse, a complete loss of valuable resin if it fails to cure to the appropriate hardness or clarity.

Also, mixing a ratio can be complicated to do using a single container, so even if the proportions are easy to follow, you might feel like you have to use separate containers to measure the components correctly. And for some of us, we might even have to pull out a calculator.

Fortunately, there are special metered cups that are designed specifically to achieve the perfect mixing ratio for epoxy resin every time without having to do any math or use multiple containers. The markings on the side of the cup indicate the pour lines based on the mixing ratios that apply to a variety of epoxy resins.

Measuring epoxy resin using the metered cup is a cinch once you understand how the system works. First, you will need to know the mixing ratio for your resin product as well as the total volume of resin that you want to activate. Then, follow George’s approach from the video to determine the pour line for the first part of the resin and the corresponding line when the second part is added. After both parts are added, the metered cup can also serve as your mixing container, with a nice, wide, open top that allows you to maintain the appropriate mixing action.
