Dave Munkittrick talks about why he likes to use refashioned 2x4s as clamping cauls for his woodworking projects. With a pair of cauls, you can apply pressure evenly across whatever wooden surface you are clamping, including edge banding, and avoid ending up with marks or dents in either side of your piece.
