The new Router Table Box Joint Jig from Rockler, $119.99, looks easy to use. Once it’s secured on your router table (the table must have a 3/4″ miter slot), an aluminum index key is used for positioning. The right angle backer acts like a miter gauge to guide the material past the router bit. The jig can be used to cut 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2″ finger joints. The index keys for all three sizes are included with the jig. It would be best to secure your sacrificial board to the right angle backer. The backer is predrilled for this purpose.
The Router Table Box Joint Jig works with material up to 3/4″ thick. Rockler recommends using upcut spiral bits for the joints, available from Rockler for $16 to $23 each.
