George VondriskaJoin George Vondriska on Thurdsay, March 9th at 11:00 am CT/12:00 pm ET for a FREE Live event! Ready to let your creative juices flow? Turn any chunk of wood into a bowl or platter using a power carver. A very fun aspect of this is that, unlike a lathe, you’re not limited to things being round. We’ll look at different styles of cutting discs and what it takes for you to convert firewood into heirloom pieces, and how to sand and finish them. Check out these FREE Wooden Kitchen Utensils Project Plans to compliment your bowls and platters

Have you ever considered starting with a router core/ box bit?
Hi Richard. You could definitely do that. I’ve tried different approaches. On larger pieces sometimes I use a forstner bit in a drill press because it’s quick, quiet and not put as much debris into the air.

Can I safely secure the wood for this project, using arbotech turbo plane, on a Kreg KWS1000 Mobile Project Center
Kreg KWS1000 Mobile Project Center
Hello Sue. Yes, you could. Depending on the size and shape of your blank, you might need some additional clamps, but the bench itself would be sufficiently sturdy for this project.
