Create a Segmented Bowl

Duration:   8  mins

Description

It’s easy to be intimidated by the idea of making segmented bowls. The angle cuts have to be exactly right, or the segments won’t come together correctly. The more pieces there are in the ring, the more cumulative error you can have. Thankfully, MiterSet Segments provides you with an easy to use solution. Get the perfect angles every time without even doing any math to figure out what angle you need to cut.

How it works

Using MiterSet Segments is easy. Slip your miter gauge into the slot in the body of the jig. Leave one pin at zero and move the second pin to the number of segments you want in your finished project. With the head of the miter gauge loose, push it against the pins and tighten the head. You’re ready to cut.

What are my options?

The slot in the jig is ¾” wide so accepts most miter gauges. The hole array allows you to set up to cut anywhere from four to twenty segments, without doing any angle calculations.

Hey George, great video as always. But I have a question, how do you determine the length of each segment if you want a different diameter ring?

How did you mount the bowl blank to the lathe?
