That sounds like a pretty cool idea. I believe I’ve seen several people do something like that by power carving flags and then burning and painting/staining them. Give a very nice look.

I would suggest that using a CNC ID as much woodworking as using a router, scroll saw or any power tool aa compared to hand tools is woodworking. Purists would have us believe that you can only be a woodworker if you use “traditional ” tools. I personally believe that to be rubbish. I don’t as yet have a CNC, but would be happy to get one for my woodworking. It doesn’t matter what tools you use to create a piece, the actual woodworking is the creativity it takes to envision something and then craft it out of your given medium. A painter can paint with a brush, and airbrush a spray can or with a potato. Does that make his/her painting any less a work of art? Same logic applies to us. Feel free to disagree, but the art comes from the artist, not the tools. Plus if a CNC give my ideas a more professional or even cleaner look why wouldn’t I want to use one?

Hi James. It’s a great choice because it’s resistant to decay, which means it will last longer. Other options might include pressure treated lumber and white oak. With pressure treated material, be sure to wait a year before applying finish, to allow it to properly dry.

Aloha Scott…
some rather like to push the mower around the yard for the close trimmed edges it permits…
while others would rather ride their mowers around the yard and finish in time to see the opening quarter of the early Sunday afternoon NFL games… (grin)

There are many factors to consider… and everyone has their own perspective on the technique that would fit their style and final outcome…

I absolutely hold no grudges against any person – man or woman – who still enjoys working with raw wood for any sort of project – 𝑪𝑵𝑪 𝒐𝒓 𝑯𝒂𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒓𝑵𝑪𝒉𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒍 – makes no difference to me… I’m just glad to see anyone working with raw wood…!
