The rabbet on this piece is probably an unnecessary step. It adds some mechanical strength to the joint, but the glue strength alone is likely sufficient for the stress that this joint will endure. So, I would consider it to be optional.

All 5 were built with scrap Ipe wood, it burns like brick so you don’t have to worry about it getting hot, and you can tap it, to you can bolt the handle on it from the top … no heat to the handle. Modifications: replace the scrap part with a softer wood (Ipe wouldn’t burn to conform to the grill); Make the base longer and the handle further to the bottom… equals more mass to do the scrape work and it reaches further; Add a bottle cap opener to the top above the handle :) … can’t let the cook get thirsty :)

I have never been comfortable with a wire brush. I have found bristles on my plate, Thanks for this idea.I may customize this scraper by cutting a little groove in the scraper to fit the shape if my grill better.

I am a surgeon and once had to remove a portion of grill brush from a patient. It had migrated through the intestinal wall and was very near some vital structures.

I was unfortunate to have these grill brush bristles get into our food long story short I had emergency surgery spent a week in the hospital not a fun time. So thank you so much for this idea and build.
