Although refrigerators long ago rendered them obsolete, antique oak ice boxes remain popular with collectors, even though they’re expensive and hard to find. This do-it-yourself version is neither: it’s both inexpensive and easy to build. An authentic reproduction of an original, the project is especially popular when used as a bar, but it has many other uses. The top opens up to reveal a convenient storage area, and the lower cabinet features two compartments perfect for glassware and other fragile items.

The ice box measures 38 inches high by 24 inches wide by 16 inches deep.

What restrictions are there on the use of this plan? Can it be monetized in any way? Is it restricted to personal use only?

Very interesting! We just happen to own an original icebox that is utilized for storage for baking supplies inside and a cat lounging area on the top, when it is closed.

You probably could, but I don’t know what would be needed to do this. You’ll have to do some homework on what components are needed for a working ice box.

I have boxes and boxes of woodworking magazines, some as old as 20 years. It seems as though the same projects keep resurfacing every few years, with minor modifications.

      Dear Dale,

Thank you for your patience. In regards to your question-

You could use whatever woodworking glue you would like for this project. I generally use Titebond III because it has good working time, and is waterproof for projects that require that.

      Sincerely,

      Paul

Looking at the size This must be a scaled down version . I remember the Ice box as being much larger. Room enough for a fifty pound block of ice.

Hi Stuart. It is impossible for us to say, as the pricing will vary based on the species of wood that you use, what hardware you choose, and the cost of these items in your area. I’d suggest bringing the plan to a local woodworking store and pricing out the materials.
      Thanks

Hi Paul thanks for the response. I’m looking for a project for Christmas gifts for the family I need 12. This year I made Finger Joint boxes out of pallet wood that I’ll fill with peanut brittle. I’d like to try something a little nicer and more functional next year. But without blowing the budget. Thanks again, Stuart
