If you’re a do-it-yourselfer, here’s a great way to maximize valuable shop space: a full-size, wall-mounted workbench that folds up into a neat, 13-inch-deep package. It even has space for a built-in light and plenty of storage shelves. We make this project easy with our folding workbench plans.

The workbench is as easy to use as it is to build. To close, fold the lightbox down, remove the cross braces from the legs, lift the benchtop and latch into place. Fold the legs into the bottom of the benchtop, shoot the bolt and slide the cross braces in behind the legs.

The project measures about 72 inches long by 34 inches deep by 74 inches tall. It folds up to about 72 inches long by 13 inches deep by 34 inches tall.

Yes, you could. You would have to make some adjustment in the design so that the vise didn’t interfere with the bench’s ability to fold up.

Hey Guys. Great job. I am a premium member. I love the step by step instructions. Much better than most sites for sure. I just luv it :-) Question. I have a basement shop. I lease, so I can’t drill holes in the cinderblock. Therefore can’t do the top part, or can I????? I am going to work up to this bench, I’m an amature, and I do have a full shop. Your help/answer would be GREATLY appreciated. If you recommend another plan or bench, please do. I need to keep it fairly simple though til I get more experience. I’m a 100% disabled vet, and sometimes challenged due to it…Blessings…Michael

Hi, Michael. I would suggest exploring with your landlord the possibility of fastening this unit to your wall. Many landlords would allow this as long as you patched up the holes when you move out, or leave the bench. Having said that, if that doesn’t work out, I would suggest building a traditional workbench with a simple base, plywood top, etc. You could use the folding workbench plan as a starting point, but just build the base and make it non-folding for better stability. A nice cheap upgrade would be to find some kitchen base cabinets that someone is throwing out, and use those as the base and put a plywood top on that. Quick, simple, and works great.

I have three work benches, two in my garage, which I can’t get to (garden stuff). I have one in my shed that, I keep thinking of tearing out and redo it. MMMMM! I have some great plans I drew up, but it’s really hard to get this 74 year old body to move.
