It appears that the author used oak, but you could use whatever wood you wanted to. I made one of these and I used walnut for the two outside pieces and the scissor holder, and maple for the interior pieces. Cherry would be a good choice as well.

When I try to download the plan on my phone a banner appears at the top saying download now, when you push that it is some rubbish trying to get me to agree to pay a dollar a day for some bs games that I have no interest in. Seems like this is not legit.
