The real bullseye of this project is learning about making “egg crate” dividers for a box. Egg crates use a cross halving joint to allow the pieces to overlap perpendicular to each other. This is a great way to divide a large open space into a number of smaller bins.
This project is all about economy of movement. You need a bunch of little boxes so store screws, nails, dowels… all the little stuff that ends up in your woodworking shop. Instead of making each box individually, which could take forever, we’ve got an approach that allows you to quickly mass produce any number of boxes. You’re going to love it.
You know that if a chisel rolls off your bench it’s going to fall with its sharp edge down, hit the floor, and blunt the edge. It’s a Law of the Universe. Protect your chisels by keeping them in a shop-made chisel holder. You’ll learn how to calculate the size block you need for any number of chisels, and then set up a dado head to make perfectly sized stopped dadoes for them.
A French cleat system creates an amazingly versatile way to store tools and other items. You can easily rearrange the set up if you change your mind about how things are stored, and can also carry French cleat bins and boxes to your workbench, then return them to the storage rack. Whether you build the tower we show here, or simply use this idea to put a French cleat system on a wall, you’re going to love this storage solution.

Who wants to work in a cluttered shop? It’s no fun constantly moving stuff from one flat spot in your shop to another, just so you can create a work space.

Part of what leads to clutter is simply not having a good place to put your material and tools. It’s an old cliché, but it’s true – It’s best to have a place for everything, and everything in its place.

The tips and projects in this class are designed specifically to add organization and storage to your shop, and get rid of your clutter.

We’re here to help

This class provides you with a number of shop-made storage options; from drawer organizers to parts bins to French cleat systems to a chisel holder.
