Rare Earth Magnet Chisel Rack

Rare Earth Magnet Chisel RackProblem. I have a real mess in my chisel storage drawer. Good chisels bounce around far too much, and I have to protect every chisel edge otherwise they get banged and dinged.

Rare Earth Magnet Chisel RackIdea. Will a pair of rare earth magnets hold a chisel rack? Will the setup work for all the different size of chisels I have? Can I eliminate my darn edge protector covers? I tested these 1/8″ x 3/4″ dia. countersunk rare earth ring magnets and found they were the answer. The countersunk holes make them very easy to mount, and they really grab!

Rare Earth Magnet Chisel RackLayout. I cut a board to 5/8″ x 4″ x 19-1/2″ (length = my drawer width). I used #4 x 1/2″ flathead sheet metal screws and attached pairs of these rare earth magnets at 1-3/4″ intervals. I spread the magnets 2-1/2″ apart for my longer chisels, and 1-3/4″ apart for my shorter chisels. Don’t over drive the screws, the ring magnets are brittle and they can break.

Rare Earth Magnet Chisel RackSolution. I attached the “chisel rack” to my drawer bottom with screws from underneath. My chisels don’t move around anymore. Problem solved!

Rare earth magnets are good.l wants used them to hold my pencil to my shirt.l just attached one inside and one on the outside of my shirt and put a small piece of metal on the pencil end.It worked good, just throw the pencil up and it stays right there. One Problem; l was on the job sight and started to get pain in my chest,l have a stint inside me. The magnets (l think) were squeezing the stint shut because as soon as l removed them (the Magnets) the pain left and l was soon fine again.
