Pet Peeve # 173: Safety goggles that fog up when I wear a dust mask with them. I like to wear a dust mask when I am making sawdust, but I commonly have to choose between shielding my eyes and protecting my lungs, which is a horrible choice to have to make. I have at least 5 pairs of safety goggles floating around my shop, and every single one of them fogs up quickly when I wear a dust mask at the same time. Then I was browsing around and saw these DeWALT safety goggles that claimed to be anti-fog, and I knew I had to give them a try. I was a bit skeptical, but I generally find that DeWALT produces quality gear, and for only a few bucks more than the cost of typical junky goggles, the risk seemed relatively low (even for tightwad like me).
Verdict. They work great, and I love ’em. The clarity is exceptional and the field of view is wide and unobstructed. The initial scratch resistance seems decent, but only time will tell on that front. But for now, I feel like this was money well spent. The only downside is they don’t breath well and my face gets pretty hot when wearing them, but I view that as a hardship that I am willing to endure in exchange for the ability to protect my lungs and eyes at the same time.
