Seems like there have been a gazillion times when I've needed some tool I don't have, and have to improvise. How about you? In one case I had to match a raised panel profile for existing kitchen doors. It was nothing more than a big cove, but a cove cut with a shaper instead of a router table. The difference? A 5" diameter cutter instead of 3-1/2". My router bit could make the cove, but couldn't cut it as deep. What did I do? I ground off the stub that holds the bearing (it was a rectangular door), made an extra deep guard for my router table and, in steps, moved the fence back from the cutter to get the extra depth I needed. It worked (but I wouldn't want to do more than one door this way).
