I need advise on buying a lathe. I have not used one before but watched my dad for years and I'm ready to do woodturning myself. Can anyone recommend what would be a good brand lathe for a beginner who plans to go forward. I'd like to make glove mallets and wood bowls, etc. Also, has anyone any ideas where to take lessons. The onlywoodworking school around here does not teach woodturning. Any ideas/suggestions would help.

You'll need to decide what your lathe budget is. A good starting point on buying advice would be to watch the video clip How to Buy a Lathe, which you can see here
Once you have a look at the clip, you can post additoinal questions you might have about lathes.
