    Hi,

I'm looking to purchase a table saw for my dad as a present, but I don't really know too much about them. After reading the article on the SawStop contractor saw I was thinking about the CNS175-TGP36 version of it.

However I was wondering if anyone with more knowledge about table saws would be able to shine some light as to if it is a good saw or if there is another one that would be a better choice.

    Thanks!

The SawStop is a sure bet as a present for your Dad. Not only is it a great saw from a performance standpoint, but you'll never have to worry about your father injuring himself on a saw you gave him.

The only way to improve on the gift would be to buy the SawStop cabinet saw for your Dad.

    Hope this helps!

I know I am late on this comment but I made the MISTAKE of buying a Craftsman table top table saw with a non-standard slot for the Miter guide.

Anyone looking for a table saw, should make sure that the slot for the mitre guide is 3/4". Don't make the mistake I did. Spend the extra $50 - $100 to get a good saw.

If this saw is in your price range, I cannot imagine that your father will be anything but thrilled, and you will have peace of mind knowing that you did everything possible to keep his fingers safe.

One word of caution, however if he is a beginner. The SawStop can minimize (not completely prevent) the damage caused when a finger hits the blade, but far more accidents are caused by kickback. So, be sure that he is educated on proper safe use of this tool before he rips his first board. These tools can cause so much damage so quickly, and could sour your father on woodworking forever.
