I have a new 6" Jet straight knive jointer that's driving me crazy getting the tables and knives aligned correctly. The instructions are not very clear (it's probably me) ut I could really use it to flatten some stock. Is there a resource for "setting up a jointer for dummies"?

What types of problems are you having? Here's an overview of jointers..... The outfeed table needs to be perfectly even with the top of the rotation of the knives. With the jointer unplugged, put a straight edge on the outfeed table to it projects over the cutter head. Rotate the cutter by hand. The knives should barely skin the straight edge. If they don't touch the straight edge at all, the outfeed table is too high. If the knives lift the straight edge the outfeed table is too low. Adjust as needed, and lock the table in place. The infeed table should be about 1/32" to 1/16" below the knives. When you're making a cut if you get a snipe, an overcut, at the trailing end of the board being jointed, the outfeed table is still too low. If, after passing over the cutter, the end of the board butts into the edge of the outfeed table, it's too high. Hope this helps you tweak a little and start getting results. Let me know.

Thanks George, the biggest problem was understanding the blade adjustments the way the instructions were written and the photo's in the manual weren't exactly like the model I have. After a lot of trials I finally understand how the adjustments worked and got the jointer aligned. It now works very well. I appreciate your response and enjoy your video instruction.
