Hi George, i hope you're doing fine!!

I bought a manual router (Makita MRP100) with 1700 watts, and I'am using to build electric guitars.
One os the things I'm thinking to use the router is for shapping the guitar body contour.
In the beggining I cut the shape in a saw and then sand the face till I get the flat surface.
This boby is made of mahogany and it has 4,5 cm of heith, and I would like to know if is safety and possible to trim the shape of body directly without cutting the shape before in a saw.
I saw in ebay some bits that fits to my application but normally they have 3/4"inch of diametter, I think is too much to open a groove with this diameter, just to shape the body.
Do you think that coud be used or should I made a shape in saw before.

Thanks a lot for your support and congratullations to your website, it's amazing!!

Routers are excellent at trimming things to shape and size, but it's best to remove most of the waste first, then do the trim. Typically you'd have a template the shape of the guitar body. Cut about 1/16" to 1/8" (1.5 - 3 mm) outside the line. Then fasten the template to your work and complete the shape with a flush trim bit.

    Hi,

here are some basic instructions for this type of case: http://www.ehow.com/how_5690066_build-wall-mount-display-case.html

Or, here is one that is designed to display a flag, but you could just build it without the diagonal piece: http://www.woodcraftplans.com/osc/flag-display-case-plans-p-1042.html

    Good luck!
