Here's your opportunity to weigh on on future DVD topics. Give us an idea of what you'd like to see us shoot. List techniques you'd like to learn, tools you'd like to master, or a project you'd like to see built. This is brainstorming, so anything goes!

I am very interested in making good Dovetails that are not necessarily evenly spaced. I am also interested in making mortises and tenons.

I would like to see the correct way/best way to add crown molding to furniture. Any tricks. Also any tips on filling screw end holes with wood putty or other better products. I would like to say I have yet to get a video (other than lathe since I don't do lathe work) that does not teach me something new or an easier way to do things in woodworking. So the videos are highly appreciated.

THe reason I have not done this before is that I have not felt it necessary. But over the last few months veiwing the DVD's I have had the desire to accomplish more. I would like to see a project that uses several DVD and that instructions are given. To cover the selection of wood, milling process, proper use of tools. Thought it might cover cabinet construction, the use of crown molding and other craft ways to enhence the prokect..I find that most of the DVD's cover processes that I have knowledge of and use. It would be nice to build a complex piece of furniture in sequence and have some thing we can pass on.

I would like to see a video that covers finishing. The proper uses of shellac as a sealer, grain fillers, stains of all kinds and the proper application of final clear coats. I think a demonstration of the proper mixing of finishes for use in a HVLP unit would be beneficial also. What to look for when mixing both solvent based and water based finishes and the proper application using an HVLP system.

You're in luck. We've got two finsihing DVDs cooking. The first one covers a large variety of stains and top coats available at home centers, advantages and disadvantages of each, and how to apply them. The second covers spraying tips and techniques, including airless, conventional versus HVLP spraying, and how to optimize the spray pattern on an HVLP system.

I am especially interested in building raised panel doors -- not the cabinet kind but entranceway, hallway, and room entrance raised panel doors. These are non-trivial and require special attention to wood grain and warping, thickness, stability and strength among other things. Raise panels doors can be and are works of art if done properly. They can enhance just about any house. I have a goal of relacing all the hollow doors in my house with raised panel doors and would welcome an in-depth guide DVD detailing the proper construction and building of these doors. Thanks for your consideration.

I like this idea. I've worked with a couple of the router table based entry and passage door sets, and am also intrigued by the prospect of putting handcrafted doors throughout my house.

Thanks for the reminder of this category of woodworking.

I'd like to see various shop set-ups/layouts from small to large. I.E. tool placement, electrical needs, heat and air conditioning a shop. Dust collection. Work flow from one power tool to another. Storage ideas.
I'd like to see George's shop for instance.
Maybe a visit to some established local shops.
Thanks George for the great DVD's it's great when I see it in my mailbox.

    George,

A suggestion: When beginning to send out the video series, ask the recipient if they have a lathe. For those of us who do not, we won't want any of the Turning DVD's, and it's a nuisance to send them back.

Secondly, why not print the return label on the DVD return envelope, rather than requiring the customer to tape it on?

Thanks and keep upthe good work!

I'd love to see a scrollsawing DVD: from beginning to advanced scrollsawing. A DVD featuring the use of a hand plane as well as the power tool would come in handy also.

I would like to see a video showing the best method to use when making perfect miters with splines. Such as would be done when making small boxes possibly like a jewelry box.

I would also like to see a video using the best method for making compound box joint miters. This would be like a try with slanted sides and miter and box joints at the corners.

    Hey George,

Love the DVDs. I didn't have the time to look at prior posts to see if this idea is already covered, but how about a lesson on choosing lumber for a project. It wouldn't be suitable for an entire DVD, but getting you out of the shop and to a lumber supplier to go through the process of selecting the right wood for the project would be helpful. I'm looking for ways to keep my waste percentage down (times are tough). I use your DVDs as an educational tool for myself and am not as accomplished as many of your readers/customers are. I know it's basic stuff, but still helpful. This idea would include comments on selecting the proper species for the job, a mixture of species for visible & non-visible portions of the project, and how to avoid selecting wood that has checks, bends, bumps, and other imperfections that drive me crazy!!

I just watched Essential Woodworking Techniques DVD again and noticed the crown molding was not what I had referred to in my request for DVD topics. I've made two murphy beds with cabinets on the sides and they finish with crown molding at the top. I measure and pre fit and still when I nail the crown molding it never fits perfect at the miters. I have a crown molding jig and still they are never quite right. Thank God for wood putty. This is why showing how to add crown molding to the top of furniture, with the miter cut would be soooooooo great to me. Thanks.

    George,

I'm enjoying the DVDs they are a nice collection of work. The DVD on the Classic Tool Chest is very nice, in the Weekend Projects for your Shop and Home. As a suggestion for future DVDs how about one on creating a Classic Tool Chest out of sold wood and more like a wooden Machinist Tool Box (Gerstner style). How about a series on designing and building a tool cabinet.

    Thanks,

    Dan

I have only received the first two videos, but if they are not covered already, I would like to see projects such as a chest of drawers, beds, and even bathroom cabinetry.

I would like to see a DVD on bandsaw techniques. It seems to be the hardest tool in my shop to master.

I read an article written by an emergency room doctor on what to include in a first aid kit for a woodworkers shop and some treatment ideas. I something happens in a workshop the first consideration is to stop the bleeding. A video on the kit and what to do would be very valuable.

    George,
I have watched you DVD's on cabinet making. I would love to see a general DVD on simply unique techniques that you have learned over the years that could be applied in a variety of wood working situations. John Deadwyler, new member

It would be very beneficial to have few how-to DVDs that address woodworking repairs such as scratches on a finish, scratches and dents all the way to the wood or superficial scratches, veneer repairs, wood cracks specially on wooden leg, cracks on table tops.

    Two thoughts on additional DVDs
    1) Just Fixes... finishes, dents, punch throughs, wobbles, bad wood... I have seen many of these on the DVDs, but one destination DVD for "just fixes" would be great.
    2) Just jigs.
Your jigs continue to impress me EVERY time... and more importantly saves me time!
Provide me a TOJC --- Table of jig content and let me go!
    thanks for asking...

    George,
Is there a place where we can see the list of available DVDs and just order the ones of interest? I used to get the series but I had to cancel as I was getting dvds from other groups too and it got quite costly even to send them back. However if you had a list or a store to by certain ones from, that would be great.
