Why would the fluid flow on my Campbell-Hausfeld spray gun be irregular? I can best describe it as "spastic" -- the flow is now even but randomly fluctuates quickly. This gun seems to have always done this -- almost like when the fluid is running out. I've had it apart and cleaned everything I can clean. I'm currently spraying water-based polyurethane, but the it's done this with almost everything I've tried to spray. Do I need a new gun?

The gun runs on an air compressor, correct? Do you have the air pressure dialed in correctly? Many guns required a regulator to reduce the 80-100 psi a compressor can create down to 20-40 psi for spraying.
If the gun has a cannister that you're putting finish into it also has an air inlet on the cannister. Typically a very small vent hole. If this hole gets clogged and air can't get in, then fluid can't get out. You can diagnose this by loading the gun and spraying. You can simply load it with water. If the inlet is clogged it will spray OK, then flow will diminish. Open the cannister to let air in, close it, and spray again. If it flows OK for a short time, then chokes off again, it's probably the inlet.
If the inlet is clogged you'll need to clear it out. Might require a small pick, like a dental tool.

Yes, it's running on an air compressor. I've tried both high and low pressures. Your description of behavior is right on -- it sprays ok for about a second, then gets irregular. A clogged inlet hole makes sense to me -- that's about the only thing I haven't recently cleaned out. Thanks. I'll give it a try.
