I just learned from one of the members here and I am so glad he shared the link. So here I am, paying it forward. At http://www.bandsawblog.com, you can see that there are many useful articles for band saw machine basics, band saw problems and band saw blade basics. I find it worth the read. I hope it helps for future reference.

If you don't have one, you can get an Delta tools owner's manual at

http://www.dewaltservicenet.com/servicenet_home.aspx?AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1

Just search by the model number of your planer. The manual might provide an exploded view of the tool, which will help you see how to do a belt change. The service site will also help you order a new belt.

You're experiencing drift, which happens when a bandsaw blade and fence are not parallel to each other. Until you "get the drift," you'll continue to experience this problem.

Unlike a table saw, on which you can set the parallelism between the blade and fence once and be done, you need to check it on your band saw each time you change blades. This is, in part, due to the the tension applied to a band saw blade to keep it on the saw.

Most band saw fences allow the user to change the angle of the fence relative to the blade. If your material is pulling away from the fence as you cut, try loosening the fence and angling it more toward the blade. If you angle it too far toward the blade you'll begin to bind the material between the blade and fence, and will need to slightly change the angle so the fence is angled more away from the blade.

It will depend on the model. I would call Delta on this. I did this on my Delta planer a long time ago, and it was not hard, but I don't remember it well enough to guide you. At the time, I talked to Delta about it and they explained the process which was not hard after I had their direction.

I recently lost the belt on my planer. I was cleaning out all the crap under the side covers, and then put every thing back together. I must have put one side on wrong because I pinched the belt cover and the belt got hot and broke. How do I change the belt?

I just purchased a 12" Delta, I went through setting it up and making sure everything but when I setup a fence the wood tries to pull away as I use it. WHY?

The Fence it on the left side of the blade and the wood will pull to the right after just a few inches of cutting.

Any insight would be great,

Thanks

I have one of these, want to buy mine? I have an awful time getting the sand paper on the drum and also keeping it on. The 80 grit is hard and the 120 grit is worse and the 220 grit is impossible to keep on. I was using it today and hoping someone has come out with a better way to fasten the sand paper onto the drum, other than that it's a good drum sander, seems like you have to go a bit slow but it does sand well.......fishcarver

Jan. 07, 10 - 01:57AM

Hi. I recently acquired an old Delta 10" cabinet tablesaw and a Sears/Simpson 18" bandsaw in exchange for some remodeling work for a customer. I'm thrilled that both are in working order but they need some long overdue maintenance after sitting in a barn for 30+ years. Before I can attempt to track down the needed bearings, bushings, etc I need to figure out the year of manufacture so I can make sure to order the right parts... assuming they are even available. The customer received them from his grandfather and his best guess as to the age based on old family photos is that the Delta tablesaw is from the mid 1940s and the Bandsaw is from the late 1950s. Any advice on where to begin the dating process and/or recommended parts sources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and happy sawdust making! Mike
