SawStop 10" Contractor Table Saw

In addition to its industry-leading safety technology, SawStop's new Contractor Saw also offers several features not found in many other contractor saws. According to SawStop the patented dust collection system removes up to 99% of particles - a feature typically found in more expensive saws with fully enclosed cabinets. The contractor saw is available in 30", 36" and 52" fence system configurations, with mobility options that include a mobile base and a job-site cart. Prices range from $1,599 to $2,578, depending on the options you choose.

SawStop's patented safety system works by applying a three-volt charge to the blade while the blade is spinning and monitoring for changes in the charge at a rate of 100,000 times per second. Wood, which is not highly conductive, does not disrupt the charge while the blade is cutting. However, human skin, which is significantly more conductive than wood, disrupts the charge, causing the digital signal processor to ignite a fuse wire and release an aluminum break that interferes with the path of the blade. This causes the blade to come to a complete stop within five milliseconds, or one-tenth of the time it takes an airbag to deploy. The result for the operator is a minor cut instead of a potentially life altering injury.
