Woodturners Will Meet in June 2011

There’s nothing like a room, or convention center, full of people with similar interests to get you excited and motivated. If you’re even remotely interested in woodturning you’ll want to be at the AAW (American Association of Woodturners) Symposium in St. Paul, MN, June 24-26. This is much more than just a meeting. It’s an excellent educational opportunity.

Your entry fee for the Symposium includes the demonstrations that will be happening all three days, and there’s no shortage of topics. Hollow Turning, Turning Crotches, Fluted and Textured Bowls, Inlaid Rims, Turn a Teapot… I can’t possibly list all the demos here. If you can’t find a topic that trips your trigger, you’re not trying.

If you’ve got lathe work of your own you want to show off, you can bring it along and enter the Instant Gallery. According to the AAW, this is the largest display of wood-turned objects under one roof. As an attendee the Instant Gallery is your chance to be inspired, motivated, and challenged by the work that other turners are doing.

Got a kid who’s interested in turning?  If so, they can get hands on training from qualified instructors, for free, as long as they’re attending with a paid adult. Pre-registration is required.

If you’re shopping for anything that revolves around turning you’ll be excited about the 62 vendors who will be exhibiting at the Symposium. What a great opportunity to compare lathes, chisels, and woodturning-related products.

The bottom line is that that the AAW Symposium is definitely the place to turn up to share what you know about woodturning, and learn more from others. For more information click here.
